The selection of crops and planting dates are specific to the CIMIS district chosen (in our example, the Central district). For perennial crops, information contained under "Date Planted" is associated with the leafing out period in which new foliage starts to appear in the spring.
If you cannot find a particular crop, Wateright has created a "Not Listed" category, where root zone, a defaulted crop coefficient (kc) of 1.0 and generic crop types (annual vs. perennial) are available to choose from. It therefore calculates an irrigation scheudule based on ETo values from CIMIS.
With our example of corn growing in the north 40, we'll choose a planting date of April 1st. Now that we've chosen the crop, planting date and CIMIS station (from the previous step), Wateright will remember this information and carry it to our next step; selecting an irrigation system.
