Step 4

Enter specifics of the irrigation system

Note the example below which offers a selection for soil type, distribution uniformity (DU), maximum allowable depletion (MAD) and sprinkler application rate. The DU and mad have default values which can be overwritten by the actual value of your irrigation system if known. Otherwise, default values have been provided based on field experience. If the sprinkler application rate is not known (inches/hr), then Wateright provideds an online calculator to estimate application rate. For sprinkler irrigation systems only, Wateright does provide a method for the growers to collect field data and calculate the actual field DU.

Sprinkler

Select the most appropriate Soil Type:
System Distribution Uniformity (DU) % (industry average)
Maximum Allowable Depletion (MAD) % (industry average)
Application rate in inches/hour

Wateright application rate calculator

if application rate is not known, enter the following data.

Sprinkler flow rate (gpm):
Spacing between sprinklers (ft)
Spacing between pipe (ft)

In our example above, we have selected the soil type of fine sandy loam, accepted the distribution uniformity (DU) 75%, maintained the maximum allowable depletion (mad) at 50%.

Finally, we entered a sprinkler application rate of 1.0 inches per hour.

Once the soil type and irrigation system data and have been entered, we're now ready to proceed.
