Commercial Turf Scheduling Tutorial

Calculating Application Rate and Scheduling Coefficient

You can calculate an application rate and scheduling coefficient for your irrigation system by performing a field test and entering data into Wateright through a series of forms.  You will need the information required on the field test calculation form. Click Here to bring up a Field test evaluation form.

The first form is shown below:

Test Duration
(Minutes - enter 60 if catchment data is already in inches/hour)
Arc (Degrees)
Number of Catchments (Max. 60)
Catchment Spacing (feet)
Spacing Configuration:

A full description of the terms are explained below.

Sprinkler Description This can either be the manufacturer or model of the sprinkler being analyzed or a description for the station. This information will automatically be transfered to the Description section for each station.
Test Duration Length of time (in minutes) that the sprinkler test ran. If the catchment data is already in inches per hour,
then this value should be 60. If not, enter test length  in minutes(e.g. 40).
Arc Sprinkler arc in degrees (360 for full-circle, 180 for half-circle, 90 for quarter-circle.).
Number of Catchments Number of catchments (that have 1/10 inch or more) used during the profile test. However, you can use only one spacing between catchments. Try to use a minimum of 20 catchments.
Catchment Spacing Distance in feet between catchments during the profile test. Value can be 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 feet.
Spacing Configuration The layout can be Rectangular, Triangular, Equilateral, Offset, or Single Row. If you select Equilateral, the distance between the laterals will automatically be calculated. An Offset layout is similar to a Triangular layout. In a Triangular layout, the heads are offset exactly half the distance between the heads every other lateral. If you select the Offset configuration, you can enter any value to offset the heads in cases where the offset is not exactly half way between the heads of the previous lateral. For Single Row configurations, you need to enter the width of the pattern to analyze and the distance between the heads. The program will position the heads down the center of the pattern and the width is the total distance on both sides of the lateral diameter.
